Books

Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn: The Complete Guide Penny Simkin, Janet Whalley and Ann Keppler

This is the go to book for all of your questions. Research based information is provided in a fair manner, giving you pros and cons of common procedures, medications and choices that you may be making.

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding 8th Edition La Leche League International

This is a great, quick resource for your breastfeeding questions. Simple, short answers you can understand and tips to put to use immediately. Perfect for the middle of the night with babe in arm and a “must know right now” question.

The Nursing Mother’s Companion Kathleen Huggins

This is another great reference for your nursing questions. I find people like one or the other of the two mentioned nursing books. Check them both out and see which fit your style

The Birth Partner, Penny Simkin

This book, especially when coupled with Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn, will answer your partner’s questions and give him or her tools in the back pocket to support you during childbirth and afterward.

Cesarean Resources

Gentle Cesarean

I encourage all families to review information about possible cesarean, even if that is not a desired birth option for them. With some planning and conversation with your provider you may be able to have many desired elements of your birth plan.
