CranioSacral for Babies

Getting to Know Teresa Robertson LMT, CST

We never know how to fully explain what CranioSacral is or does. But we have a highly recommended craniosacral specialist right in our own Beaverton backyard, so we’re inviting her to come tell us herself! Our team of postpartum doulas in Portland Oregon know how important and exciting this will be!

Teresa Robertson is one of the best known, highly recommended CranioSacral specialists in the Portland area. We refer a large number of our families to her to help with things like better latching, fussy babies, tight necks, if baby was born in a funny position.

My profession is: CranioSacral Therapy for Infants, Toddlers, Children and Adults.

Where do you find passion in your work?
I truly love to not only help people feel better, I love it when they find a connection more deeply to themselves.  Helping them understanding their body better, and with babies I love that the techniques I do can bring peace to a difficult situation such as poor breast feeding or digestive issues, and family can then spend more time bonding with confidence.

What do you want people to know about the service you offer?:

The services I offer not only help babies, they also help children as they grow and develop. I am involved in educating families on milestones and behavioral concerns. Sensory Processing is a particular interest of mine and CranioSacral Therapy can be extremely beneficial.

How do you support new families?:

I love being a part of the newborn care team. I work closely with doulas, lactation consultants and doctors to make sure we are getting baby and family the appropriate care and guidance.

What are some myths about your service or profession that you want people to understand?

Myth:  That it is dangerous

Truth:  There is NO clinical evidence that show CranioSacral Therapy can cause harm. It is extremely gentle and non-invasive.

Myth:  That such a gentle light touch can’t possibly be doing any good.

Truth:  It has been shown that the body responds very favorably to light pressure touch. Deeper techniques can cause the body to constrict and cause muscle guarding. Gentle touch allows the restricted tissues to unwind on their own or with just a small amount of guidance. This allows the central nervous system to relax more fully which guides the body to function more efficiently.

Can you share  something you’ve learned from being a parent?

I am not a parent…yet I have been around numerous children as they grow and develop.  What I deeply respect is the family dynamic and I can only hope to enhance and support that as I work to help resolve the conditions I am working with.

What’s your favorite place to go, or thing to do on vacation?

My counter balance to being so calm and patient with the families I work with is to get out and about in a very active and exhilarating way…I love white water rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, back-packing and challenging hikes.

The most important thing you want us to know about you is?

I am very experienced, I have been licensed for over 24 years.  I treat each patient as an individual, that said I bring my past experiences and insights gained to each case.
